Working with a city department to gather youth feedback on a survey redesign
CLIENT: San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families | PROJECT LENGTH: 6 months
The Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families (DCYF) supports a large portion of San Francisco’s youth programming from afterschool programs for middle schoolers to workforce development for transitional aged youth. Every year, more than 30,000 youth complete a survey to gather their feedback on the programs they participated in. Coinciding with their new strategic funding cycle, this year, DCYF overhauled the survey and retained Clarity to test it and gather feedback on it from youth.
Our team of interviewers sat with a total of 129 youth over 23 input sessions to test and gather feedback on surveys across 5 different service areas. Youth gave thoughtful reflections and suggestions for revisions that were shared with DCYF along with interviewers’ observations and recommendations, which will result in a new tool that will reflect what youth feel are the important and appropriate questions to ask, which will be administered across multiple programs over the next 5 years.
